Kwara State University (KWASU) has received a significant boost with the approval of 13 new undergraduate and postgraduate programmes by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

This exciting development, confirmed in a statement by Dr. Saeedat Aliyu, the university’s acting director of University Relations, signifies KWASU’s commitment to providing a broader and more specialised educational experience for its students.

The approved programmes cater to diverse academic interests, with two undergraduate offerings and a substantial addition of eleven postgraduate programmes.

Undergraduates will have the opportunity to pursue a Bachelor of Health Information Management (B.HIM) or a Bachelor of Science in Development Studies (B.Sc.).

Postgraduate students can delve deeper into fields like Common Law and Islamic Law with the introduction of Master of Laws (LL.M.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programmes in both areas. Additionally, the university will now offer Master of Library and Information Science (M.LIS) and Ph.D. in Library and Information Science.

Further expanding postgraduate options, KWASU will offer Ph.D. programmes in Human Kinetics and Special Education. Master’s degrees in Public Sector Accounting and Development Finance round out the impressive list of new programmes.

The letter stated that the programmes are to be offered in full-time mode and are scheduled to commence from the 2024/2025 academic session.

In his reaction to the NUC approval, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of Kwara State University, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, expressed excitement about the new programmes commencing at the university. He commended the state government for its support in achieving this feat while appreciating the steadfastness of the institution’s staff for their readiness to take on the new programmes and contribute more to human capital development.
