In honor of the Islamic New Year, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has declared Monday, July 8, 2024, a public holiday throughout the state. This decision marks the commencement of the new Hijrah Year, known as Muharram 1446 in the Islamic lunar calendar.

The announcement comes as the first day of Muharram 1446 is anticipated to fall on Sunday, July 7, 2024, aligning with various lunar calculations observed by the Muslim community.

Governor AbdulRazaq, in extending his wishes to Muslims across Kwara State, expressed a heartfelt recognition of the significance of the occasion. He called for deep reflection on the collective journey of the Muslim community, emphasizing the values of tolerance, mutual respect, and justice as guiding principles.

“The Hijrah marks a significant moment for Muslims worldwide, symbolizing renewal and spiritual reflection,” Governor AbdulRazaq remarked. “May this new Hijrah year bring blessings to all, and may our community continue to uphold goodness and unity.”

Rafiu Ajakaye, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, conveyed the Governor’s message and reiterated the state government’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and harmonious environment for all residents of Kwara State.

As residents prepare to observe this auspicious occasion, the declaration of Monday as a work-free day allows families and communities to participate fully in religious and cultural activities associated with the Hijrah.

The Governor’s declaration underscores Kwara State’s dedication to supporting religious diversity and ensuring that all residents can celebrate their faith and traditions with peace and unity.
